How You’ll Know It’s Time For A Visit
You have an interest in keeping your brakes in good repair, so perhaps you’re wondering how you’ll know when it’s time for a visit. First, you should have us inspect and/or service your brakes periodically. A good rule of thumb is about once per year for most drivers (unless the automaker specifies a greater frequency), but it can be more often if you drive extreme distances or under harsh circumstances. However, regardless of time or mileage, there are signs that you should recognize, as they will alert you to the need for an appointment. For instance, if you notice that it’s taking a longer distance to stop your auto than it used to, bring it in for service. Also, squealing as you apply brakes is a giveaway. This likely means that your car needs to have its brake pads changed. They’re durable, but they won’t last forever. Likewise, grinding during braking indicates a problem. This could mean metal-to-metal contact that’s damaging your brake rotors. Major vibration when you brake might indicate warped rotors. Your brake pedal should stop firmly at about the same place above the floor each time. If it begins to feel spongy or goes to the floor, your vehicle needs immediate attention. A lack of sufficient brake fluid could likely result from a leak or a cracked master cylinder. Finally, a burning odor could be a braking system issue. It could perhaps be an engaged emergency brake or a stuck brake caliper. Whatever is causing your brake malfunction, our team can fix it for you.
